Technology
Sea Ray has invested more capital into technology in the last ten years than any other builder in the industry. Computer systems that aid in the production of new boat models are constantly updated and refined. Our state-of-the-art facilities feature the latest innovations in hull construction and gel-coat application.
Every Sea Ray is conceived at our 70,000-square-foot Product Development and Engineering facility. This facility is unmatched in the marine industry, with 250 of the top designers, engineers and craftspeople in the country. Sea Ray’s top-of-the-line technology and automation gives them the freedom to constantly dream of possibilities and then make them happen.
Every boat undergoes the most extensive testing and validation procedures in the industry, culminating in six weeks of constant testing in the water. When designing boats, Sea Ray stops at nothing less than the standard of excellence.
Sea Ray engineers use the latest modeling software, scale models and full-size mock-ups to analyze every feature of a new design. They modify, experiment and study a boat from every angle, resulting in a fit and finish second-to-none.
We are also leading the industry in ergonomics. We place full-size computer mannequins in every design, walk them through every inch of the boat and even study their seating positions and line of sight. That explains your comfort in a Sea Ray.
Sea Ray’s computerized 5-axis mill, the largest in the industry, uses the CAD/CAM data to precisely create master patterns from foam molds that are accurate to 1/2000 of an inch. Thus, our hulls are perfectly symmetrical.
Our investment in the latest technology also allows us to build stronger, safer and more reliable boats. Laser-guided robots apply uniform gel-coats of the exact consistency and thickness to the hull and deck. Our robots perfect the fit and finish with each cut they make, and our RealData quality control process allows us to thoroughly inspect and track every part.
We could make a boat the way other boatbuilders do, but we never will. Our standards demand a higher level of precision. That’s why we continually invest in new technologies that allow us to produce a boat that is stronger, safer and more reliable. Design
Every Sea Ray is conceived at our 70,000-square-foot Product Development and Engineering facility. There’s no other facility like it in the world, with more than 250 of the most talented designers, engineers and craftspeople. And our unprecedented investment in technology and automation gives them the freedom to pursue a constant stream of innovative possibilities. Then we put everything they create through the most extensive testing and validation procedures in the industry, culminating in six weeks of nonstop testing in the water. When it comes to designing boats, no one has higher standards.
Our engineers use the latest modeling software, scale models and full-size mock-ups to analyze every feature of a new design. They modify, experiment and study a boat from every angle, resulting in a fit and finish that are second-to-none.
Sea Ray is unsurpassed at ergonomics. For example, we place full-size computer mannequins in every design. Then we walk them through the cockpits and cabins, up steps, through engine hatches and around decks to check for ease of movement. We study seating positions and even analyze line of sight from the helm area. That’s why you feel more comfortable in a Sea Ray.
Sea Ray’s computerized 5-axis mill, the largest in the industry, uses CAD/CAM data to precisely create master patterns from foam molds that are accurate to 1/20,000 of an inch. As a result, our hulls are perfectly symmetrical. Hand-built hulls can’t produce tight chine patterns that grip the water like ours.
We have our own standard when it comes to testing. That’s why our boats are put through a minimum six-week nonstop water test for performance, integrity and overall quality. Some say this is extreme. We agree, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Standards
We could make a boat the way other boatbuilders do, but we never will. Our standards demand a higher level of precision. That’s why we’ve invested in the latest technology, which allows us to produce a boat that is stronger, safer and more reliable. Our laser-guided FANUC P-200 robots apply uniform gel-coats of precisely the right consistency and thickness to the hull and deck. Sea Ray’s exclusive Multiple Insert Technology resin-transfer process produces consistently exact boat components, including thousands of Sport Boat hulls annually. Our robots achieve perfect fit and finish with every cut they make, and our RealData quality-control process allows us to thoroughly inspect antrack every part. You may not remember precisely how we build a boat, but you’ll never forget the confidence it gives you on the water.
Instead of using paper patterns and electric scissors to cut fabrics, Sea Ray insists on the precision of a computer-driven three-axis fabric cutter. This versatile tool can cut through five layers of fabric, vinyl or laminate to produce materials that fit into each boat perfectly. And by storing accurate patterns on disk, we can provide exact replacement parts for years to come.
Our robots allow us to cut parts as big as 37 feet long and 12 feet wide to an accuracy of 1/60,000 of an inch. We are the only manufacturer to use robots to cut parts this big. And that’s what makes the fit and finish of a Sea Ray stand out from everything else on the water.
Sea Ray’s custom gel-coat finishes provide superior UV protection and a long-lasting high gloss that won’t fade or dull out. Our FANUC P-200 robots use lasers to guide them, then spray precisely the right consistency over every part of the surface. Less-exacting methods can result in coatings that are too thick and will crack, or too thin and don’t cover the part.
For more than five years Sea Ray has been using Multiple Insert Technology to create fiberglass parts, from deck hatches to hulls. We now produce more than 40,000 closed molded parts per year. It’s a precise molding technique that ensures that the exact amount of resin is injected each time to each side of the part, resulting in a two-sided finished surface. If you make a better part, you make a better boat.
Build
We put all these features together to produce a boat you can’t find anywhere else. And it doesn’t happen by accident. We set the highest standards, from waterproof electronics to helm seats that are thru-bolted instead of screwed into the deck. Heavy-duty windshield frames are made exclusively for Sea Ray. The insulation for our engine covers absorbs sound rather than just deflecting it. Everything comes together in a fit and finish so refined that it has no equal. Maybe that’s why Sea Ray owners say they would never own anything else. You can’t buy that kind of loyalty. But you can inspire it.
Sea Ray’s ergonomically designed bucket seats conform to the body and provide years of maintenance-free use. The closed-cell foam we use in them doesn’t allow water to collect, and there are no springs to corrode or break. And they have superior memory, so they always maintain their shape. The double-stitched seams will ensure that they last for many years to come.
The sun pad engine covers lock down for safety and are easy to open, due to our gas-assisted lifts. The sound-dampening insulation actually absorbs sound rather than deflecting it, making for a quieter, more enjoyable experience.
Sea Ray windshield frames are made exclusively for us and are almost twice the standard thickness. A stronger windshield is safer, quieter and more durable.
You’re in complete command behind the wheel of a Sea Ray® boat, with an ergonomically designed dash that reduces glare. All the information is displayed on shaded gauges with glass lenses that prevent fogging and are backlit for easy readability.
